Inspiration from the Chinese Opera

A while back I created this look for a friend based on inspiration gathered from traditional Chinese opera makeup. Oh what joy!

Particularly fascinating and very rich in meaning. These creations reflect the identity, status, personality and appearance of the characters and therefore can intensify the artistic appeal on stage. A character with mostly red makeup or a red mask is brave and loyal. Black symbolizes boldness and impartiality. Yellow denotes ambition, while pink stands for sophistication and well-balanced.

My dear friend Mare has featured quite a bit in my make-up work before, as you’ve probably noticed. This was her real wedding and I’m thrilled to have been there and to have done the makeup for the bride and the bridesmaids, all close friends.

Chappie and Marianne got married on 13 October 2012 at Nooitgedacht Estate in Stellenbosch. It was THE perfect day. This wedding, this day and these people are so close to me. One special day with its memoirs, engraved in my heart forever.

Ashley + Mike // Zurich Engagement Shoot

Makeup Magnificent

The bold colour fashion trend was echoed in makeup everywhere this season. This look was created on a open brief based on that to do a bit of self promotion. How much fun when you can do whatever your hart desires!

For the eyes I used the awesome high pigmented creme eyeshadow from the 12 Flash Color Case from Make Up Forever. I decided on nude lips and very natural blush as the eyes and hair was bold and the absolute star of this look.

I had such a great time working with Cornelia Ziegler getting her all prepped and pretty for a photo shoot. It was a real pleasure and you looked stunning!!!

27.05.12 - Julia & Andreas

It was such a pleasure being involved in this wedding! Julia looked flawless on her special day. I got the focus on her lovely eyes by playing with plums and purples that work so well with her blue eyes. The slight rosy cheek and soft pink lips was the last touch to finish the look. She looked so gorgeous and timeless. I also enjoyed giving each member of the bridal party a unique look to suit their bubbly personalities. Oh what fun!
